Spiritually Bankrupt

Oftentimes people are looking for something that is relevant to them today. They are looking for a word of hope for their current situation. They are looking for a remedy to fix what is wrong. They go from place to place and person to person trying to find satisfaction. In reality, that is almost an equivalent of living paycheck to paycheck. You get your check, pay your bills, and have nothing left over. On the spiritual side, you only want enough of God to fix your situation, but not to enough to secure your eternal inheritance. Would you rather have a one check or an everlasting inheritance? If you don’t apply biblical principles to your life you will never have an abundance and you may very well run dry. Here are a few tips:

  1. Don’t study the word when it is tour turn to preach a message. You study to show yourself approved.
  2. Don’t wait until you have a problem to pray. Pray God’s will everyday and when the problem arises ask him for wisdom.
  3. Don’t limit your worship to times when you are down and out. Worship God because he is God. If he never does anything for you, he is still God.
  4. Don’t put all of your energy into this temporary life. Focus on things that are eternal because none if this is going to matter in the end.
  5. Make up your mind about your salvation. Living a double life will ultimately lead to destruction.
  6. Don’t wait until a tragedy strikes in your life to start believing in Jesus Christ. Serve him today, he is your salvation.

Don’t become spiritually bankrupt. Start investing in your spirit man immediately. Every deposit will yield a good return. Read your Bible. Worship the Lord. Pray everyday. Have faith. Overcome evil with good. Be kind. Love. Hope. Believe!

I know You are Right, But Are You Righteous?

How many times have you found yourself in the middle of a heated argument because neither party wants to be wrong. You know you are right, so you feel the need to prove it. The other person believes they are right, so they disagree with you. Neither one of you are willing to let it go. Both are at the top of your lungs yelling about how right you are. God is looking at you both saying, “I know you think you are right, but are you righteous?” When our need to be right supersedes the desire to be righteous, we are not representing Christ well, at all.

Matt 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

You can’t possibly make peace trying to prove you are right all the time. Being a peacemaker is a huge sacrifice. You have to give up self. You have to agree to disagree. In fact, there are a couple of old sayings I like. “Sometimes you have to take right for wrong.” “You can be right, or you can be happy.”-Bishop W Courtney

God is not concerned with whether you are right or wrong in the eyes of people.  He is concerned with you being righteous in his eyes. The only way to become righteous is through right living. We must accept Jesus, his ways, and his will in our life.  There is no room for Jesus when our ego is in the way. Yes, there are going to be times when it is necessary to get your point across, but keep Jesus in the middle. Let him give you the right words to say, ministering grace to the one who hears. Let him give you a heart of humility, refraining from being combative and  learning how to speak truth in love. Lastly, ask yourself, “How important is it for me to be right?” If your “rightness” outweighs your “righteousness,” you might be more wrong than you think. I challenge you to evaluate yourself in each conversation you find yourself in. Don’t worry about the other person, that is between them and God. You focus on you and only you and walk in victory and the righteousness of the Lord!

Happy Sunday! Put Jesus First!

This is one of the simplest principles in life to grasp, but we somehow manage to do things out of order. We take care of everything else and realize something did not go right, then we go to God desperately in prayer. Start your Sunday off right. Continuously find yourself in the house of the Lord giving him thanks and seeking his face. Everything else will begin to line up and fall into place. Have a blessed Sunday!

Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Hey You!

What are you doing?! People are moving on with their life and you are still in the dumps about an old situation. It is time to forgive and move on. I know you have heard it a million times before, not forgiving means they have power over you. You have a choice in some things and you can choose who you allow to affect your life. You were miserable while they were a part of your life and now that that they are no longer a factor, you are still miserable. Something is not adding up. If you keep thinking about them and it brings you down, they are still influencing you. Focus on the direction you are headed, forward. Forgiving them doesn’t mean you agree with what they have done, it just means you are wise enough to realize it is unhealthy to hold on to the pain. It is time to start walking in victory. It is time to be healed and be free. If you are affected by people who are in your life on the regular basis, like family members, pray for them. I am a believer of the power of God through prayer. He can save the unsavable and change the unchangeable. He is God and there is nothing too hard for him. You may not be able to control their actions, but you can certainly control yours. Turn them over to God, pray and believe! Be healed in the name of Jesus and be free from your past. Today is a new day.
